Our Mystery Artist for March is...

Salvador Dali!

Salvador Dali is a Spanish surrealist artist. He was born on May 11, 1904 and created artwork until he passed away on January 23, 1989. Surrealism was a very bizarre art form that allows the artist to tap into the subconscious mind. The artwork was very dream like and had a lot of juxtaposition in the artwork.Juxtaposition means when two things that are opposite or unlike each other are placed close together. Dali studied with other famous artists Pablo Picasso, Rene Magritte, and Miro in Paris.

Our Mystery Artist is... FRIDA KAHLO

Our Mystery Artist for October is... Frida Kahlo !    Frida Kahlo was a Mexican artist who painted many self-portraits and works inspired by nature and Mexico. She was married to another famous artist names Diego Rivera. Kahlo had polio which left her disabled at the young age of 6. At 18 years old she was in a bus accident which left her in severe pain for the rest of her life.  On the left you can find one of Frida Kahlo's paintings called Self Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird, painted in 1940. Does this image look familiar? It was the image that was revealed during the weeks in October on the Mystery Artist bulletin board! Kahlo used symbolism in her artwork. We can see a black cat, a monkey, and a hummingbird. What do those things mean to you?  Below are links to more resources where you can learn more about Frida Kahlo: https://kids.kiddle.co/Frida_Kahlo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfbLR15Bh74 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7y3kbZEfCc
