Our Mystery Artist for October is... Frida Kahlo!
Frida Kahlo was a Mexican artist who painted many self-portraits and works inspired by nature and Mexico. She was married to another famous artist names Diego Rivera. Kahlo had polio which left her disabled at the young age of 6. At 18 years old she was in a bus accident which left her in severe pain for the rest of her life.
On the left you can find one of Frida Kahlo's paintings called Self Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird, painted in 1940. Does this image look familiar? It was the image that was revealed during the weeks in October on the Mystery Artist bulletin board! Kahlo used symbolism in her artwork. We can see a black cat, a monkey, and a hummingbird. What do those things mean to you?
