The Mystery Artist for May is... Georgia O'Keeffe

Our Mystery Artist for February is...

Georgia O'Keeffe!

Georgia O'Keeffe was born November 15 1887 in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. Georgia O'Keeffe was an American artist and was recognized as the "Mother of American Modernism."

Georgia O'Keeffe immersed herself with nature and focused a lot of her artwork on the world around her! She is most well know for her up close paintings of flowers. Yet, this is a very small part of her full collection of art she has created! Imagine if all you painted was cars and one day you painted one plane and that painting became famous!

Georgia O'Keeffe quit painting 3 times! Every time she came back to paint more and continue her career until one the day she became blind. Then Georgia O'Keeffe started sculpting!

Georgia O'Keeffe is an inspiration to many female artists. In 1984, she became the first women to earn a retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art.
